Committee meeting minutes 30 August

30th August.
Committee meeting at Agnes, and Alan house.

Attendees: Les, Laurie, Lynne, Agnes, Alan, Milly and Jamie

Apologies: Peter, Julie, Brenda.
Brenda offered her resignation, she is unable to continue due to other commitments at this time. Committee accepted Brenda's resignation.

Minutes: Minutes from the last meeting were accepted.

Items arising from the previous meeting:
Markers have now been placed on the electric wires, near the bridge
50 K. signs have been place within the marina development. Trade vehicles still seem to be ignoring the speed limit

Retirement village:
The committee questioned what was happening regarding the retirement village.
Lynne to ask the developers.

Feedback from the developers:
Lynne received a letter from the developers.
The raised bank, around hard-standing area is to have a permanent paved walkway to the tavern
The marquee may be available for community events

Aim of the marina lovers:
Previous meetings have been finding a role.
It is felt that the aim of the group is to give information for newcomers.
What can I get, where, how, when
Generate a mission statement
Council:
The council appears to have no development plans for the marina.
The committee questioned who our councilor was and what ward we fell under
Milly to find out who our councillors are, and invite them to our next meeting

Boat club:
A resident had requested that the boat club includes fine dining.
It was felt by the committee that this would not survive.
The boat club is believed to be a commercial enterprise, which the committee felt should be a casual location.

Retail section:
A doctors surgery, already exists, in what will become the new retail section.
It is believed that a pharmacy and dentist are already lined up for the future.

Footpaths:
The council need to be actioned to get the footpath from the bridge to the marina.
We all need to write to the council as individuals. Public liability, near miss, environmental, are all words that could be used within your letters.
The people from the new houses outside the marina may be interested in writing letters also.

Jazz on the water:
It is believed that the Rotary will be organising this event.
The procession of boat lights may want to be linked with the Jazz on water event.

Hindmarsh Island Rotary:
HI Rotary has been running for just over a year and a new president has recently been sworn in. A new website is currently under construction.
Anyone with a mind for raising money and offering some time for the community is welcome to join. Currently the HI rotary are giving time to a variety of causes:
Breakfast club @ the primary school
Coffee morning at the retirement village
Fundraising events throughout the year
HI Rotary meet at Rankines Landing on Monday Lunchtimes - 12 for 12:15 lunch till 1pm.
Ask Peter Rankine for contact details.

Future Fundraising Events:
Garage / Car boot sale – spring clearout. Gold coin donation for each car.
Advertising as a community event; Times newspaper; various local radio stations.
Photos of the locality made into a calendar

Social Event:
Agnes has investigated locations for a community event for the Marina Lovers
Steam Exchange:- Expensive, limited dates available for October
Centenary Hall:- Expensive, Bond required, Cleaning required afterwards, event to be finished by 1am, public liability required
Aquatic Club:- better price for event with reduction for community groups, cleaning included, bar available (no BYO), self cater or use Café de Carlo, kitchen fully stocked.
How would we work out how many people would come and so how much to charge?
May be a little expensive at this time – need to do some fundraising before hand.

Sausage Sizzle:
Cheaper option at this stage may be to have a sausage sizzle within the marina
Sausage on bread, with onions and sauce.
Lunchtime event, get sausages in bulk from butcher. 8-10 kilos
Barbeques provided by committee – or ask the developer
Laurie & Allan to ask Andrew if he would be able to lend BBQ, if there is an area we can use and if he would be available to join us
